Menteng Sub-District Needs More Dump Trucks

Waste management transition from private sector to Jakarta Provincial Government, which has been conducted since January 2014, is making Menteng Sub-District officials worried. The reason is because the sub-district is lacking of dump trucks. As a result, waste volume in Menteng Sub-District cannot be handled optimally.

“Previously, 90 percent of trash in our area was managed by private party. But starting January, it was taken over by Jakarta Provincial Government. Since then, the amount of dump trucks decreases from 17 units to only 7 units because the private party withdrawn theirs. It is not balanced with the trash volumes produced,” uttered Head of Menteng Sub-District, Bondan Dyah Ekowati, Saturday (6/7).

Because of this condition, the trashes cannot be picked up optimally, thus they are piling. But, Ekowati admitted that this problem has been reported to Central Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department and Central Jakarta Mayor.

“ We’ve proposed to the city government for additional dump trucks for five urban villages in Menteng Sub-District, namely Menteng, Gondangdia, Cikini, Menteng, and Pegangsaan . Ideally, the amount of dump trucks must be 15 units,” she stated.

Ekowati also disclosed that in July her party would get assistance in form of five dump trucks from Central Jakarta Administration. Later, those dump trucks will be spread to pick up the trashes every morning and afternoon in five urban villages.

“Those dump trucks will be used by 100 janitors who are working in three shifts,” she told.
